SpeakPad does not collect, sell, or share personal data. Boards, photos, voice recordings, and usage data are stored on your device. When the device is signed in to iCloud, SpeakPad also backs them up automatically to your personal iCloud account, which we cannot access.

All data, including the child's name, communication boards, vocabulary items, and settings, is stored on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. When the device is signed in to iCloud, SpeakPad also keeps automatic backups in your personal iCloud account, which is not accessible to us.
SpeakPad offers two backup methods:
.speakpad backup file and share it via AirDrop, the Files app, email, or any method you choose. We never see or have access to your backup files.SpeakPad uses Apple's built-in text-to-speech engine (AVSpeechSynthesizer), which runs entirely on-device. Irish, which Apple's engine does not speak, is played from voice clips built into the app. With SpeakPad Pro, a caregiver can also download SpeakPad's natural-sounding voices for English and Irish, which play on the device in the same way. No speech data is sent to any server.
A caregiver can record their own voice for a word or phrase. SpeakPad asks for microphone access the first time you start a recording, and uses the microphone only while you are recording. Recordings are stored on your device with the word they belong to. They are part of SpeakPad backups, so they are included in the automatic backup to your personal iCloud account when the device is signed in to iCloud, and they leave the device in a file only when you export or share a backup or board yourself. Recordings are never sent to us.
SpeakPad is designed for children and complies with Apple's Kids Category guidelines. The app collects no data from children or anyone else. There are no external links, advertisements, or in-app purchases accessible to children. Caregiver settings are protected behind a parental gate.
SpeakPad uses no third-party analytics, advertising, tracking or crash-reporting SDKs. iCloud backups and device updates use your personal iCloud account. Apple processes Pro purchases and restores through StoreKit; SpeakPad checks purchase status on your device. Your child’s words, boards and communication history are not sent to us for payment processing. SpeakPad voices a caregiver chooses to download are hosted for us by Cloudflare. The download sends no personal data, and we keep no record of who downloads a voice.
The app and this website are separate. SpeakPad does not send your child’s communication data to us. This website counts which pages get read and which support answers get opened, so we know what to write next. It records:
Page views come from Cloudflare Web Analytics, run by the company that hosts this site. The rest is counted by the site itself. Either way there are no cookies, no advertising, and no third-party trackers, which is why there is no cookie banner. We do not store IP addresses, and nothing links one visit to another or to a device, so the numbers are totals that cannot be traced back to a person. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, the site counts nothing at all.
SpeakPad includes its own symbols, drawn for the app, along with the classic symbols. All symbols are bundled within the app and are not downloaded from the internet.
If we ever change this privacy policy, we will update this page with the new date. Because the app collects no data, we do not anticipate changes.
