FOR SPEECH AND LANGUAGE THERAPISTS, AAC SERVICES AND TEACHERS

An AAC app you can suggest to any family

Communicating with SpeakPad is free, with no time limit, ads or account, so a family can start the day you suggest it. It is built on the principles you would check first, and therapists can ask us for a free year of Pro.

What families get free

Speaking, sentence building, prediction and every accessibility feature are free, with no time limit. Pro is optional: it saves time for whoever builds and looks after the boards.

Goals, team sharing and drawing require SpeakPad 3.0.1 or later.

SpeakPad Free

  • Unlimited speech, sentence building, prediction, drawing and every accessibility feature
  • One complete vocabulary set and every topic board, plus one free change of set per profile
  • Unlimited text and personal photo vocabulary; create and edit boards freely
  • Search the symbols available for your profile’s symbol set, reuse symbols already on its boards, and assign 30 new ones free; the SpeakPad set includes all 26,000+
  • Two communicator profiles
  • Board imports, .speakpad sharing, printing, file backups and automatic iCloud backups

SpeakPad Pro

  • Assign any built-in symbol, beyond the 30 free assignments on each profile
  • Create a whole board from a word list with Quick Board Builder
  • Switch vocabulary sets as often as you need
  • Apply newer boards from your other devices on the same iCloud account automatically
  • Create a third communicator profile and beyond
  • Export formatted activity reports as PDFs
  • Track IEP or therapy goals session by session, with prompt levels and progress in the PDF report
  • Share boards, goals and sessions with invited team members on different Apple Accounts; receiving their updates is free
  • Export .obz boards for other compatible AAC apps
  • Download SpeakPad's natural-sounding voices for English and Irish; every voice built into SpeakPad stays free

Built the way you would build it

SpeakPad follows the principles AAC specialists look for, and keeps to them as boards change.

Words stay where they were learned

Every button keeps its place as vocabulary grows. Revealing a vocabulary stage, showing a hidden word or adding a topic board never moves an existing button, so motor plans hold.

Core words on every board

The Core Zone keeps high-frequency words in the same place at the top of every board. Buttons follow the Fitzgerald Key, and each word class has its own shape too, so nothing depends on telling shades apart.

Vocabulary that grows in place

Three stages (First Words, Growing, Everything) reveal starter vocabulary step by step. Any single button can be hidden by hand and keeps its place.

Phrases stay editable

A phrase loads into the message bar as separate words, so it can be changed, added to or spoken as it is. Phrase boards are grouped by what they do: getting help, routines, joining in and feelings.

Switch, touch and VoiceOver access

Built-in switch scanning (row-column, linear and group) works with the on-screen switch and compatible keyboard-style or game-controller switches. Check the switch guide before choosing hardware. Hold duration, repeat filtering, Dynamic Type and VoiceOver are built in.

Your modeling stays out of their data

Turn on Modeling Mode while you show words, and those taps are left out of the person's usage, target word counts and reports.

The reasoning behind these choices

Handing SpeakPad to a family

Print the one-page handout or send it as a PDF. It tells a family what SpeakPad is, how to get it and how to start by modeling, with space for you to write the first words to show.

Other ways to pass things on

Ask for a free year of Pro

If you are a speech and language therapist or pathologist, ask us for a code that gives you twelve months of SpeakPad Pro on your own iPhone or iPad. Email us from your professional address with your name, role, workplace and registration. You redeem the code in the app: in Caregiver Mode, open Settings, tap Unlock SpeakPad Pro and choose Redeem a Code. After the free year, Pro renews at the annual price unless you cancel.

Request a free year of Pro

The code is for your own iPhone or iPad, and only for registered therapists. iPads that a practice, clinic or service owns need Pro on each one, at the Pro Annual price, and schools buy licenses through Apple School Manager: SpeakPad for Schools and Organizations

What your service will ask

Short answers for information governance, IT and service leads.

Data
SpeakPad has no accounts and collects no data; its App Store privacy label is Data Not Collected. Boards, photos and usage stay on the device. If the device is signed in to iCloud, SpeakPad backs up to that iCloud account, which we can't access. Its only connection to a SpeakPad server downloads a voice a carer chooses, and sends no personal data.
Agreements
If your service needs a privacy agreement signed or a security questionnaire completed, email [email protected] and we'll complete it.
Continuity
SpeakPad runs offline and needs no server of ours to work. Boards print, share as .speakpad files and, with Pro, export as .obz for other AAC apps. Usage data exports as CSV or JSON for free.
Devices
iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 17 or later. There is no Android version.
Languages
English, Spanish, French, Arabic, Portuguese, Hindi, Simplified Chinese, Dutch and Irish, with labels in two languages at once for bilingual families. Apple has no Irish voice, so SpeakPad brings its own.
Accessibility
Full accessibility is built in: VoiceOver labels on every element, in-app switch scanning (row-column, linear, and group), Dynamic Type support, and configurable touch accommodations (hold duration, repeat filtering). Compatible with iOS head tracking and AssistiveTouch. Requires iOS / iPadOS 17+.
